About Us

Though the Shalom Center for Justice and Peace is an organization developed by Lansing-area United Methodists, we sincerely and cordially invite all people to join us who share our mission -- to offer opportunities for education, action and spiritual fellowship concerning justice and peace at all levels: the person, church, community, nation and globe.

Statement of Purpose:  Peace Dove

It is the mission of the Shalom Center to offer opportunities for education, activism and spiritual community concerning areas of social justice, world peace, and peace within local towns and cities in the Lansing District. With special focus on District churchs and their Church and Society Committees, the Shalom Center endeavors to disseminate information, call to nonviolent action, provide seminars and forums, offer a speakers bureau, and facilitate activism with the Social Principles of the United Methodist Churcfh and our Book of Discipline.  The Shalom Center strives to work in harmony with other peace groups.  All to the glory of God!

Who We Are:

Our board, the Shalom Guiding Committee meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at Central United Methodist Church.  Meetings begin at 6 p.m.  All are welcome to attend!

What We Believe:

Social principles of the United Methodist Church are comprehensive and rooted in a tradition of open hearts, open minds, open doors.  United Methodists, in the "method" established by founder John Wesley, seek to make decisions about such issues by using the intellectual sieve of the "Wesleyan Quadrilateral," which includes scripture, tradition, reason and experience.  This method means that United Methodism includes individuals with a wide range of thought and revelation.
